I expect that some people in Indiana feel like they have lost too much evening daylight after the recent switch to Standard time.
They can perhaps take some comfort in knowing that even on Eastern Standard Time we still have about 45 minutes of daylight shifted from morning to evening.
For example, the sunrise and sunset times in Indianapolis today are 7:15 am and 5:40 pm.
The natural times for sunrise and sunset today for our latitude and longitude are about 6:30 am and 4:55 pm.
Thus, on Eastern Standard, we still give up about 45 minutes of morning sunlight in exchange for 45 minutes of evening sunlight.
Whether you think that is too much, too little, or about right, it's clear that those who prefer more daylight in the evening are still the winners.
This can be confirmed by looking at the sunrise and sunset times for cities due east and west of Indianapolis at the center of each time zone.
For example:
Philadelphia sunrise / sunset today is 6:32 am and 4:55 pm.
Peoria is 6:31 am and 4:52 pm.
Denver is 6:31 am and 4:55 pm.
Reno is 6:27 am and 4:57 pm.
